Malaysia had developed itself as one of major global services outsourcing destination especially in the area of Business Process Outsourcing, System Integration and IT consulting services.   Government, Finance Services Industry and manufacturing remain as largest services opportunities.  According to the consultant firm,  A.T. Kearney’s 2011 Global Services Location Index, Malaysia ranked as top third popular destination for services outsourcing after India and China.  The ranking analyzes the top 50 service locations worldwide 39 measurements in three categories: economic attraction, people skills and business environment. 

The continuing grows basically driven by ability to maintain high-end and high-value services.  Business environment advantages provide a key sustainability for cost-effective and value-oriented services.  Government policy of continues to promote the industry, such as enhance of world-class IT infrastructure in Multimedia Super Corridor and Cybercities, provide investment incentives to foreign enterprises, open human resources, strengthen overall population of English and technology for Malaysia to maintain as one of global preferred services outsourcing destination.

The global logistics company, DHL had setup a regional IT center in Cyberjaya for Asia Pacific operations coverage.  This is one of three data centers run by DHL worldwide.  The Dutch Shell Group having it’s IT support center in Cyberjaya to provide desktop support services, engineering and development services to worldwide Shell companies.  HP is running a data center in Cyberjaya as well as Petaling Jaya outside of Kuala Lumpur. The company said part of its drive to open the newer center in Cyberjaya was to support local clients, including DHL and Western Digital.

Other companies like ACS, BMW, HSBC, IBM, Intel, Motorola, Nokia, Unisys, Fujitsu, EDS, CSC and many others have setup their base of regional and global operation in Malaysia.  To date, there are over 130 Shared Services & Outsourcing companies in Malaysia ranging from major local players to multinationals. Malaysia is also home to 250 call centers.
